How far behind are you?
1–3 months behind
Usually a quick project. We catch up and roll straight into monthly bookkeeping so it doesn't happen again.
4–6 months behind
Common after a busy season or a bookkeeper leaving. Statements for each month are all we need to start.
About a year behind
Often tied to a tax deadline or extension. We rebuild the full year and hand your preparer a clean package.
Multiple years behind
We work year by year, oldest first, and coordinate with the overdue tax returns so each year can be filed.
What catch-up bookkeeping covers
- Importing available historical transactions
- Recording missing income and expenses
- Categorizing every historical transaction
- Reconciling each bank, card and loan account by month
- Reviewing and correcting account balances
- Identifying missing documents early
- Year-end P&L and Balance Sheet for each year
- Coordinating with your tax preparation
Catch-up and your tax return
Most catch-up projects start with a deadline: a Schedule C, a partnership return (1065), an S corporation return (1120-S) or a corporate return (1120) that can’t be filed until the books are done. Filing without reconciled books risks missed deductions, overstated income and notices later.
We prioritize the year with the nearest deadline and hand your preparer a clean year-end package. If you’d like, our tax team prepares the return as soon as the books are ready, and we can request an extension where one is still available.
What we'll need from you
Bank and card statements
Every account, every missing month. PDF downloads from online banking are fine.
Loan and payroll records
Loan statements and your payroll provider's reports, if you have them.
Sales platform reports
Stripe, Square, PayPal, Shopify or marketplace payout reports for online or card sales.
Your accounting file (if any)
Read-only access to QuickBooks, Xero or whatever was used before, even if it's out of date.

Bookkeeping questions
Bookkeeping reports are management reports for running the business and preparing tax returns. They are not audited, reviewed or compiled financial statements; those are separate engagements.
